The Community Service Society is proud to announce that one of its own, Elisabeth Ryden Benjamin, will be honored today by the New York State Health Foundation as a Luminary Award Winner. The award recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to improving the health of New Yorkers.
As Vice President of Health Initiatives at CSS, Elisabeth supervises the agency’s consumer assistance programs, health advocacy efforts and health policy directives. She is also co-founder of Health Care for All New York Campaign (HCFANY), a statewide coalition of more than 170 health, legal, civic, labor, immigrant and community-based organizations devoted to securing affordable, quality health care for all New Yorkers.
For over 25 years, Elisabeth has worked to improve health care for New Yorkers. Most recently Elisabeth provided research and analysis that was instrumental in the creation of the Essential Plan -- a less costly health coverage option for low-income residents. She has also been the architect of practical solutions for providing health coverage options for New York’s unauthorized immigrants.
Today, we applaud Elisabeth for her tireless advocacy on behalf of all New Yorkers who deserve quality health care, and for setting new standards for how we think about expanding health coverage for the most vulnerable among us.
